Innovation and contract research

Example: Cattail (reed mace) – sustainable resources for Switzerland

Reed mace or cattail is a renewable resource that is cultivated organically in the region of Wauwilermoos in Central Switzerland. The idea is to collect experiences related to the agricultural production of reed mace, with the aim of optimizing its yield. In pilot-scale production units, the processing of cattail into innovative environmentally compatible building materials is demonstrated. Furthermore, this project depicts cattail as a renewable source of energy, with the intention of introducing it to the market as a fully developed product. With this, new value-added chains are generated in agriculture. In several industries, new jobs will be created thanks to the production and selling of cattail products.
