Capacity Development for Ecological Sanitation in Bhutan
Together with local partners, the WHO and with the help of donations of „Kriens hilft Menschen in Not“ and the Canton Lucerne, seecon international carries out project about the introduction of Ecological Sanitation in the small Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. The project aims to pilot alternative sustainable sanitation solutions with the long-term aim to mainstream ecological sanitation in Bhutan.
The starting point of the project was a seecon ecosan course for Bhutanese Government Officials in neighbouring Nepal. In the course, the participants learnt about alternative sanitation systems. In the meanwhile, more than 40 ecosan toilets in four different districts of Buthan have been adapted to local conditions and are now in use. A detailed report on the ecosan training course has recently been published by the WHO.
